Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She's also a seasoned public speaker. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic that has received awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a website dedicated to education, which examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. Destroying stereotypes about women are her primary goals. But, she also highlights issues related to targeted harassment against women online as well as other communities who are marginalized. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Apart from being a popular public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated with gender issues as well as feminist ideas. As a student, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency website. Someone who hoped to create a web series that examined the representation of gender in video games was targeted by the internet campaign. However, the attacks did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a journalist who is feminist. She is a recipient of many awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women in popular cultural narratives.
